SourceWith elements arranged in a gridded block, the system expresses its modularity with singular force. By comparison, the SK 4 's organic forms and natural materials of just two years earlier seem positively romantic. Rams' shift towards a more technical aesthetic was influenced, in part, by HfG student Herbert Lindinger's thesis, a study on a modular audio system, submitted to the Braun Company through Hans Gugelot's development group in '58. Lindinger's study and Rams' studio 2 together established the formal principle of Braun audio's heroic '60s phase.
